Finding balance between off-the-shelf solutions
and customising the product towards new business ideas
Leid is a Norwegian eco-friendly start-up based on the idea of sustainable usage of tools. The company is enabling people to rent renovating equipment instead of having them buy it and store it on the shelf most of the time. Having so far 2 locations for picking up and returning the tools, Leid has introduced new versions of stock – allowing to rent whole bundles of products prepared for each phase of renovation.
The challenge
As an early MVP, Leid company used an off-the-shelf web app in order to validate their initial business idea. As the second part of business hypothesis testing, they required a tailor-made solution that would let them add new versions of product stock, create a more appealing user experience (especially on mobile devices) and scale their operations according to the market response – all in the spirit of agile software development.
Product Discovery
The founders came to us with tons of ideas and new hypotheses to test, we decided to help them narrow down the scope and prepare a more long-lasting prioritised roadmap.
During the remote workshops, we have created several user personas (both B2B and B2C), main steps in the customer journey and ideated on more business and feature concepts in order to prioritize the most essential ones into a clickable prototype.
Scope of work
Our role was to help validate new user flow and UX solutions that were combining basic features from the first version of the app with new solutions. Key moments in the process? Design, User research and prioritisation of the first release scope.
The solution
After several rounds of testing, we were prepared to build a fully functional MVP that allowed complex price adjustments, and stock and order management. With help of Ruby on Rails framework, within 5 months, we managed not only to remodel functions from primarly used solutions but also to add several tailor-made features – all to help Leid scale up their business for the private customers.
Results
Leid emerged with a ready to use RWD platform that within the first 2 months acquired more than 350 users with over 330 bookings! The second part of the development process will mostly focus on automation of the internal operations, quality assurance and opening to the B2B customers. Get ready!
