GLP was searching for a tech partner that could deliver an MVP in under two weeks. The main challenge was defining the ideal scope, implementing and releasing the app in such a short time. Even with this time pressure, we started the project with remote workshops to define the user story map and dive deep into the user’s journey. We've gathered everyone involved in the project — from the founder to the development team — so that everyone could bring their viewpoint on board. During that meeting, we've changed the chosen technology and adapted the scope twice to make sure we could deliver on time and the application could be adopted by the Nigerian market. After the workshops, we were sure that everyone was on the same page and we could begin the implementation.
SocialHealth is divided into two panels, one for the patient and another for the doctor. The patient can fill out their medical history, check the doctor’s bio and their certificates, choose the doctor and book a visit. While booking, they enter their symptoms and pay for the consultation. When the time of consultation comes, they are connected with the doctor via a video call. After the consultation, they receive the proper recommendations and prescriptions for the medicines.
In their panel, the doctors can set their working hours and breaks, as well as access to a calendar with all planned consultations. They can check the patient’s personal detail, medical history, and symptoms. Thanks to the calendar view, they have quick access to all planned video calls. After each consultation, they can write a prescription for the patient.
To save precious time, we've implemented the MVP as a PWA (Progressive Web App), so that we didn't have to wait for approval from Google Play and the Apple Store. Of course, the app is responsive and also works well on desktops. It was also very important to create a fully secure application, so all connections and patient data are encrypted.
What technology have we chosen? React on the front-end and Ruby on the back-end. Thanks to that, we were able to reuse some code from our internal repository, as cutting time here and there was key. Also, we decided to use Material Design components, so instead of the looks we could spend more of our limited time on the UX part of the application. Total project time: 532h within 14 days.
We've released a stable application within the given deadline. It is now being tested by a chosen group of doctors and patients in Nigeria. The next steps for the app will come soon and SDH will keep you all updated!
We design our products in mobile-first approach when necessary, so end-customer can enjoy seamless experience across all popular devices.
We had to ensure quick development time. The SocialHealth technology stack is:
Communication is one of our most important values and a habit we support at every stage of our development process. The conversations are executed through digital tooling so the context is never lost. We use Slack for chat, Jira for planning, and Github for code reviews and discussion.
