Highly scalable job platform

Employment intro img

Project brief

Employment.org came to us with a challenge of preparing their app for intensive scaling. We ran a thorough code refactor and then moved to design and develop new features. We went for microservices to ensure stability and scalability. After successful months of work we stayed on the project as a product team responsible for constant development of the platform with engineers and designers onboard.

Readability first

The goal we wanted to achieve with the identity choices for Employment.org was to put simplicity and readability first. The whole platform was supposed to feel like plain content full of job offers, not a flashy website focusing on its looks. The product’s purpose is to serve people offering employment to others and to help people looking for a professional career for themselves. Not the other way around. We went raw with the identity to stress that feeling.

Distraction-free form

With the design of the platform we wanted to embrace the feeling coming from the brand identity and its statement. No fireworks, no sugar, no bluff. The form our design team came up with works brilliantly with our assumptions. The board looks perfectly clean, it’s completely distraction-free and it puts content first. It’s light and it leads users through the whole process without any doubts or confusion.

Technology

When working on the project we had a challenge to make it as lightweight as possible but at the same time without any sacrifices in terms of technology advancements. Employment.org technology stack:

  • React, Node.js (front end)

  • Ruby on Rails (back end)

  • Google Cloud Platform

  • Kubernetes, Ingress

  • PostgreSQL, Redis

Conversation is one of our most important values and a habit we support on every stage of our development process. Conversation is executed through digital tooling so the context is never lost. We use Slack for chat, Pivotal Tracker for planning, and Github for code reviews and discussion.
